I have lived in Tasmania all of my life and would not choose to live anywhere else. Here we are surrounded by extreme beauty and, throughout each year, are exposed to all weathers and their accompanying moods. We have freedom to go where we want and can often do so having contact with few others.

A love of Tasmanian landscape and a desire to master the wonderful techniques of watercolour, have led me to pursue this type of painting for over 18years. Much experimentation, learning from others and years of practice, have allowed me to reach the point at which I am now with my work.

I get great satisfaction from painting this way. Watercolour is a medium that somehow 'gets you in'. It becomes addictive and leaves you with a yearning to master the next technique. By using only a handful of colours, I am able to mix a wide variety of hues with varying strengths, to represent our natural landscape. Simplicity is the key to a good watercolour, creating a first and lasting impression of yout subject matter. Few lines and colour can create an instant image of a particular place on a particular day. Standing at a distance to view how the colours merge and move is definitely the way to view each painting.

I never tire of looking at watercolour paintings and can appreciate many styles and techniques. They seem everchanging and never stand still. As a lover of the outdoors, nature and pristine surroundings, I find myself wanting to represent Tasmania's unique beauty in this way.
